2006
After a moderately hot summer, the 2006 growing season ended with a cool extended ripening season. Yields were modest. The later ripening reds saw a lot of hang time to develop flavors. The Bordeaux red varieties, which ripen late, came in with good varietal character and moderate tannins. We are also impressed with the syrahs. The whites are a bit leaner than those from 2005, with good acidity and varietal characters. A few vineyards which have younger vines are showing more maturity and depth of flavor.

2007
A warm July set the stage for an early, compressed harvest. The earlier ripening was partially offset by a higher set and yield for the whites. The chardonnay is rich and ripe. Look for peach flavors in the viogniers with moderate acidity. The reds were harvested earlier than usual with ripe flavors and good character. The syrahs are full-bodied and flavorful.

2008
Spring came late after a wet winter. There was warm weather in May and June which allowed the crop to set well. At some sites crop levels were lowered to assure high quality in an overall cool growing season. The summer weather was moderate, with few hot spells. There was nice ripening weather in September. Whites were harvested about one week later than usual, showing good intensity of flavor. There were cool spells in late September and early October, and an early frost in October in some areas, but none of our sites were affected. The reds were harvested with exceptional natural balance, and the wines show intense berry character and moderate tannins.

2009
The 2009 growing season was unusual, with some extreme events, yet produced excellently flavored white and red wines. Nature delivered a late spring, a hot summer and an early freeze. Heat spells throughout the season made this one of the earliest vintages ever. By the end of September, everything was harvested except for two blocks. This was fortunate because temperatures dropped in early October and there was a strong freeze before midmonth. Fortunately, by then only the Mourvedre remained on the vine, and it was undamaged in one of the few locations to escape freezing temperatures. The whites show rich and intense fruit flavors. The reds are showing big flavors early with rich, ripe tannin structure.
